In the good old days, people actually went for walks on foot rather than using a car. Unbelievable, but true.
(This comic strip was previously published on April 19, 2010.)
hehehehe your crew is obviously related to my teen daughter
Manual walking is so 20th century!
it’s sad that parents have got so paranoid about their kid’s safety nowadays. I’m sure the danger is no greater now than it was when I was a kid. Even as a 5-6yr old I made my own way to and from school, walking there in the company of some girls a couple of years older than me who attended the same school. Nowadays, it ssems parents are not content unless they have personally dropped their kids off right at the school gate
It seems as if that’s the case everywhere, now. Walking to school is probably considered cruel and unusual punishment.
We walked at least 2 miles to school. Uphill, both ways.
All you old people like Chris say that!!
Not me. I drove.
You’re a lot cooler than Chris!
Come on Chris, only 2 miles? It was at least 5 each way for us, also uphill each way. It also snowed every day.
You old guys never had it easy, did you?
That’s my kinda walk 🙂
One has to drive to get to the best walks
And then just keep driving! At least if it was up to me.
WALKING?! Clearly Wombies don’t walk. They ride in style!
Yeah, walking is for people!
And for Chris 🙂
Yeah, Chris is our people.
And the provider of the car.
Okay, Chris is our car people.
Good thing, or you’d all be walking.
Young people. I thinkin’ of gettin’ me one of them hover rounds.
I’d prefer a flying saucer, myself.
Much cooler than a segue.
Definitely! Try getting into orbit on a Segue.
Not without a giant slingshot.
I’ve tried slingshots. They’re fraught with problems.
You would think with the vulcanization advances it would be easier now than ever.
It perhaps is easier now than it was before, but I still was unable to achieve anything close to success. Perhaps you’ve had better luck?
Yes, but not with something as big as a rocket. Perhaps, you could do it in a suit rather than a ship.
It might work, but I think it still would require an awfully large slingshot.
We used to live on a giant hill. When my wife wanted to take a walk, I made her drive to the top of the hill and start our walk from there.
In the winter, you could toboggan down, and get driven back up!!
Or in the summer perhaps a kids scooter would be good 🙂
Or I could use my little red wagon!
Maybe a taxi?
I don’t think a taxi driver would let us slide down the hill in his car, though.
Or a skate board.
That would work, too!
Not up hill.
It would if Binky added rockets to the skateboard!
Did you make her walk back up and drive the car back?
You stole my question. So, Bearman, did you?
I bet they are a two car family so used the 2nd car to shuttle back to the top to get the first.
That’s what I would’ve done! And without the walking in between.
Yes and I still do go for a walk. Or is that the dog takes us for a walk. Not sure.
Have a terrific day. 🙂
Maybe if we had a dog I wouldn’t mind going for a walk.
If he had a big dog you could ride on its back 🙂
I want a big dog!!
I thought that you would like that idea Fraz 🙂
I do! A big dog would be better than a pony!
Walking with your feet? How barbaric!
I know! What century is this?
No way are we walking it Fraz 🙁
We’ll go on a walking strike! I mean a no-walking strike!
Yes and while we are striking we can be eating our pancakes 🙂
Pancakes with chocolate and wine gums!
And washed down with double choc milkshakes 🙂
You’ve got it!
Wow, I’m hungry again!
The Wombies meant “walk” in the modern sense!
Exactly! Chris needs to get with the times!
If not for my dogs that would be the only walk I’d have time for.
Maybe I could walk your dogs on the beach sometime. And I could look for old genie lamps at the same time.
I found a genie. I bet it could be yours too. I give you a hit where it is…it’s among one of us….Happy hunting.
And yes, feel free to walk Cassie and Cici on the beach all you want Fraz.
hint not hit.
I didn’t think you’d hit me!
A genie among us? Someone here is a genie??
I told Fraz about Andro’s genie. But for some reason the genie refuses to come out of the bottle.
He has to rub the bottle…not shake it.
Oh. Perhaps that’s why the genie looks like she’s sleeping.
Unconscious from the concussion.
I’m just glad she’s not dead!!
That would seriously hamper your chances of getting wishes granted, Fraz.
Plus I bet the fairy union would ban me forever from having another fairy!
That’s a lantern, he has to pull the cork of the top so the genie can come out as smoke first.
I guess taking out the cork might help!!
Please don’t hit Fraz.
She didn’t! She just typoed.
Yes, I’m the queen of typoooos
That’s a lot better than being the queen of hitting!
lol..yes, I guess it is. 🙂
lol too good but its shocking that people dont know Wombies are style Gurus…they dont walk they ride 🙂
You’d think people should know how hip we Wombies are by now, but some of them don’t!
I have never seen a Wombie without some form of transport, I mean it is totally unheard of, unless your name happens to be Chris of course… Hmm he needs educating 🙂
Yeah, Chris is kind of slow that way. I guess I’m going to have to teach him.
You could be like Beau, Fraz, and ride in my purse when I walk.
That sounds like fun! You carry any wine gums in that purse?
Absolutely. There are interior pockets. And it is big enough for a cool pouch to keep the chocolate cold.
Where do you shop? I need a purse like that!
Mostly through my shoe services. There are two with really great accessories.
That might be a problem. I don’t wear shoes.
Hey Twink how about a nice big pair of Wombie friendly fluffy slippers, and you can have pink with yellow stripes or orange one’s with red dots 🙂
I wear pink fuzzy ones.
Fluffy stripped slippers sound good. Especially if they’re all soft and squishy.
See, and you could get a bag to match! The best thing about shoe services is they deliver!
I could get to like that!
This reminds me of my nieces.
They must be smart, then!
They did at least walk to the car.
We were tricked into it!
Do you think they’d walk for chocolate?
Me too 🙂
I guess I was meant to meet the Wombies.
I could be one of you, guys!!!
You can be one of us anytime you want! Cha is a great name for a Wombie!
Cool, thank you so much.
“We Are Familyyy, I got all my Wombies with me” 🙂
And maybe they could teach me to play the ukulele!
Maybe if you were walking to the store to load up on chocolate & wine gums??? that would make it worth the exercise.
That’d be worth the walk! But the car is better because it holds a lot more chocolate than you can carry!
And a truck is even better 🙂
I wonder if we could borrow a train for a chocolate run?
Yes a good idea as long as we don’t have to run anywhere 🙂
Just to the chocolate factory and back! And maybe a side trip to the wine gum factory, too!
I have a big truck. And a very long trailer.
Really?? Can we borrow it? We’ll give you part of our haul!
Can you drive something with a 10 meter trailer?
I can drive anything! At least until they catch me!
It can be fun to haul. It is heavy though…It weighs just over 3 metric tonnes before it is loaded…that means with the fridge empty. Not even with fairies in it. But the air conditioning would keep the chocolate the perfect temperature.
Oh, you mean a house trailer! That’s cooler than I thought! Loaded with chocolate, it’d probably be 10 tons!
You can’t very well road trip the way I do without one!
I didn’t know you did! Maybe I could stowaway under the sink or something on one of your road trips!
The camper sleeps eight people. You would not need to stow away. Just get in and ride!
Oh boy! Can I bring my genie? She should be able to keep the tanks full!
Of course you can. There is a shelf above the stove where you could put her bottle so it would not be disturbed.
Sounds like it’ll be an awesome trip!
They walked, well, “zipped” to the car at least.
And that’s as far as we’ll go!
I guess they’re in the car so they can drive to the Wombat Park.
The Wombat Park is too far to walk to!
Who is driving?
We thought Chris was, but I can drive if he doesn’t want to.
Hey Chris, was just about to get into the car and ZIP everyone beat me to it, but the idea was the same, now are you driving us on this walk or am I doing the honours my wicked friend? 🙂
I don’t know. How much do I have to pay you to take the gang away for a few hours?
Well just keep us supplied with lots of chocolate, spam, pancakes, marshmellows, wine gums and I will happily drive us to Fraz’s Island, I know there is a big treat for him there just waiting to happen 🙂
The car’s packed with food & treats! Take the Wombies for a long, long drive!
We have already been and come back, but if we set off again we’re going to need a lot more treats Chris 🙂
Don’t worry, I packed the trunk full of good stuff again! And I’ve got more where that came from, if you need more.
We always need more Chris you know that 🙂
Sound like my house.
I think you should get a genie, then you’d never run out of treats again!
It’s hard to believe how fast chocolate can disappear around Wombies.
I’m thinkin’ of buildin’ a combination den and garage so I don’t have to walk as far to the car.
That sounds like a great idea! Can I come visit and stay a month or two?
Sure. I won’t wombat proof my garage-den.
We will eat chocolate and catfish and have a blast.
Wohoo!! I’ll bring the wine gums!
Hey Bo, how about a chute ride down to the car, and that way you can ride in style before even starting up the engine 🙂
I like that idea! Sort of like Batman and the Batcave!
Yeah, if I could get a partner we could be Fatman and the Boy Blunder.
I could be the Boy Blunder!!
I want to play the villain.
The Evil Red! I like it, but I think you might have to work on your evilness!
You have no idea of some of my special powers! *Evil Grin*
I guess I’d better watch out, then!
A slow car ride is about the same a s a walk to my lazy behind. 🙂
And a fast ride is even better!
hehehe… victims of civilisation 😉 Walking (by foot) can be pleasant too 🙂
Maybe. But only if there’s chocolate at the end of the rainbow.
And skates on our feet, we don’t like walking too much Sabina 🙂
Skates are a much better way to walk!
Roller blades. I am in.
There is nothing like a good skate, unless we are being chauffeured around in a Rolls Royce or Super Hero Fraz Mobile 🙂
I have a Super Hero Fraz Mobile? I bet it’s really cool!
It’s cool alright and has a fridge full of yummy chocolate 🙂
I don’t think I’m ever leaving my Super Hero Fraz Mobile! It has everything I need!
Walking burns calories. An unnecessary waste of good food.
We wouldn’t want to do that!
Here you are Tony, Winky, have another pancake 🙂
Thanks, Andro! I think I’ll never walk again!
You have to be extremely careful not to do that. Walking is an easy trap to fall into. Give in & do it once & there’s a good chance you’ll be tempted to do it again.
That’s why I don’t want to ever start walking!
I think they are ‘almost’ there – I don’t see them wearing seatbelts! Fun strip. W.C.C.
We didn’t have time to put them on yet!
That’s car culture for you!
There’s nothing better than a car for going for a walk!
Or for a long run either 🙂
It’s hard to get anybody to go for a walk… unless you let them text while doing so.
(This comment was previously published on April 19, 2010.)
Are you texting for a taxi JG? 🙂
As long as he’s not texting while driving. Or playing Duke Nuke’m.
Hey, I can re-post comic strips, but you’re not authorized to re-post comments! Even if they are good.
Yes I noticed that too 🙁 I think another round of milkshakes and marshmellows to make up for it 🙂
Make up for what? Oh, who cares!
Yes who cares as long as we have a never-ending supply of all the things that we enjoy the most 🙂
That’s what I say!
More pancakes, please!
No texting and walking. My sister walked into a light pole that way. On second thought, text away.
Luckily it wasn’t a heavy pole!
Heavy enough…judging from the knot on her forehead.
Poor sis! If I did that, Chris would say “I hope you learned a lesson!”
Before or after the chortle?
I agree with this scene, my nieces and nephews actually thought that when we go out for a walk to get to the park just 2 blocks away, they would like to ride the car to get there. It just seems that children nowadays are so pressed for time that they can’t wait to be there instantly!
That’s right! I don’t have time for walking! I want to be there yesterday!
Or even last week 🙂
That’s even better ’cause then I could eat last week’s chocolate all over again!
Well now, looks like I ain’t the only one who walks that way.
All the smart people walk that way!
Sad to say…this is so true!! People rarely walk anymore.
We should all take example of the Japanese and Chinese who still love walking
I guess I’ll be staying away from Japan and China, then!
Do they eat pancakes and wine gums in China and Japan? 🙂
I don’t know, but they sound like they walk too much for me!
Yes let’s have a rest and a few of these wine gums I’m getting tired just thinking about walking 🙂
Me too! Why walk when you can eat instead?
People still do that? What of their frail ankles?
Some people are so old fashioned it’s hard to believe!
Oh MY how times have changed! Nice one 🙂
You mean you didn’t used to walk with the car?
They walked to the car, it counts…right?
And that was enough walking for me! Time for a drive!
we usually have to drive to our walking destinations – seems silly!
Driving there is the best part!
Under the right circumstances Wombats are the fastest creatures on the planet, obviously.
Especially when we have rockets.
“I guess we could watch you walk from the car…”
That’s about all the walking I want to do.
