Internet Books
Books printed on paper may not exist in the future, but reading will be with us for a long time. At least until they figure out how to beam the information directly into our brains.
(This comic strip was previously published on January 1, 2010.)
Hahaha…
sounds kind of heavy, doesn’t it?!
🙂
It would be rather heavy if you tried to print out the entire internet.
Getting the library thing on!
That’s where I go to get DVDs!
Do they have books, too?
The internet on paper? That sounds like a great idea!
But rather bulky.

And that’s just Volume One!
That’s a very descriptive description Binky. I guess that was the idea behind evolving from the writing pad to the Ipad.
I must say I’ve never read of or know anything about The Grapes of Wrath. I thought it was Apes of Wrath. Suppose hanging on a vine for months then getting sqished for wine or grape juice would make them rather wrathful.
Beware of the grapes of wrath! You never know when they may sneak up and squirt you.
I suppose The Grapes of Wrath is more an American classic than an international one.
Yes Tony and I always thought that it was lord of the Stinks but I guess Chris must know all the correct titles as he seems to be an expert on it 🙂 Mind you if he is getting all excited about reading through all those books, then at least we have the opportunity to get the space rocket programme started and start collecting all that Dark Matter 🙂 Have a great start to 2012 Tony 🙂
A space expedition would definitely be an excellent start to 2012!
OK so I Googled Grapes of Wrath. Plus I found that there is an Apes of Wrath too

I don’t remember ever seeing that cartoon before.
I think they eat grapes in Planet of the Apes.
I wonder if they eat apes on Planet of the Grapes?
They go through a lot of bananas in that film too 🙂
I suppose you could say they go ape for bananas and grapes!
If he has books around the house, then what have the wombies been using them for?
I like to use them as blocks for building things. I didn’t know they had stories in them!
The crazy thing is what Binky is saying to Fraz could be what people will be saying to kids in a few years in real life.
Now that e-books are often outselling real books, and readers and tablets are getting better and less expensive, the days of the mainstream book are probably numbered.
Well he does have a point. I love holding a book, the smell of a book. I know that someday books will all be electronic, but I’m not looking forward to that day.
Have a terrific day. 🙂
Some of us will probably always hang onto our real books, but they definitely will be getting rarer in the future.
I had that resolution last year – It lasted one chapter of “Great Expectations”!
Well I guess one chapter is better than nothing!
I still read books…Don’t think I’ve ever read an internet book before.
What’s a book? Would that happen to be all those papers I chewed up on the beach when you went swimming?
I think you’re supposed to read books, and not chew on them, Cici!
Maybe, but I’m a puppy…Chewing is what I do best.
Well it’s probably a good idea not to chew on things people like. Maybe you could chew on some fruitcake.
Aak! NO! But I will try to remember to leave mommy’s things along. But I like the things she likes.
Then try to chew on only things she eats, and not just things she likes. You won’t get into trouble that way.
You’ve got to get with the times, Deb! E-books are all the rage. Or so I hear.
I want one of those which-a-ma-call-it things so I can read books on the beach in stead of paper-backs…The one that has no sun-glare…..Money, money, money.
Price is certainly a deterrent. E-books would be a lot more popular if they cost the same as a paperback.
Ah, the internet on paper… But how to turn a page without a mouse or a touch screen? XD
I’m working on thought-activated page turning.
Poor books… now we have to explain what they are to younger generations
Poor younger generation, too.
i love the classics. Have you read any Henry James?
I bought a couple of his books with good intentions but never got around to reading them.
i think The American is my favourite. Portrait of a Lady is pretty damn good too.
I’d prefer to read Huckleberry Hound.
I’d prefer to be Huckleberry Hound!
Actually, Yogi Bear would be closer to my heart stomach.
Hmm… I don’t know about these “books”… I only read things that I can leave a comment on!
You’re obviously a very smart man!
I already think this is going on! I myself have started to read a book several times, since I got active on the internet, but never get far… Or they come out with the movies so fast, I end up watching a chopped up version of the book, so why read?? what will the next generation ever do when the power goes out?
The internet definitely takes up a lot of our time. Nowadays the psychological effects of a power outage would probably be much more severe than any physical hardships we may suffer from such an event. A couple of days without social media would probably kill a lot of people.
When we were without power on the Island for a few days due to Hurricane Irene, I thought I was going through some kinds of an online detox…It was a bit uncomfortable.
If we ever lost service for months or years–like they say is possible with a large enough solar storm–I’m not sure what would happen to us.
Books… are those things still around?
Apparently some old people still use them.
I hope it never comes to that!

I think it might already be too late!
Me personally i watch the movies. It’s quicker.
Movies are certainly quicker, but they often don’t have the depth or complexity of a good book.
Great analogy Binky, I was also having trouble understanding what books are.
Maybe I’ll send you one.
I thought “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Like Water For Chocolate” would be compulsory reading for wombies!!!
Yes and ‘The Chocolate Orange’ too, or was that ‘Clockwork?’ 🙂
I like Terry’s Chocolate Orange, but that’s not a book.
Yum
In my tum!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a Wombie favorite!
It looks as though Chris will be up to his neck in reading those classics, I wonder if he will forget about us eating all the chocolates, pancakes, spam and wine gums, now that will be a great start to 2012 me thinks? 🙂
That’s a good idea! While Chris is distracted reading, we can have a party and finish up all the leftover chocolates and wine gums and all the other festive treats!
You actually have leftover chocolate!!! Wow!
We had a bedroom packed full of chocolate for the Christmas season, but it’s just about gone now.
Yes but don’t forget the Party Hats Winky 🙂
Of course not! It can’t be a real party without party hats!
That is a good resolution!
Happy New Year Binky!
Happy New Year, Indrani!
Sad but true lol
Books probably should be put on the endangered list.
When I clicked on the link to this one I thought it said “internet boots”. Maybe time to see the optometrist? “Like the internet on paper” That’s a good one!
I don’t think internet boots would be very effective. I doubt they could keep you warm and dry.
Loool! It’s the easiest explanation for kids novadays. 🙂
I like books. Their smell, when they are new. I like touch them. As long as intenet can’t please all my senses, books will win. Like many other things from real.
If we could simulate reality better, maybe we wouldn’t need it any more.
He’ll be reading for ages!
That would be good! If Chris is busy reading, maybe he won’t notice all the things I’m doing.
It works for me.
If we got together, there’d be a lot of trouble for the humans!
It’s sad but true~! Books are slowly becoming a thing of the past and things like the nook are more popular.
We definitely seem to be in a transitional period where books are becoming less important and information is stored online.
I totally agree, books are like the Internet on paper. I must say I’ve never heard of the Grapes of Wrath until now. Books are still used in many areas of the world wherein the Internet (or electricity) is not easily available.
Books will probably be around for quite some time, but their dominance as a source of information for much of the world has probably already passed.
Do thay hav Kibble of Roth too???
They might. I’m not really up on the doggy bestsellers.
This is so true!! So many of us would rather read on the internet than a paper book. I am definitely guilty of this
And the younger generation will probably know nothing but reading from a device.
Do read The Lord of The Rings Chris!!! It is an amazing book, one of my all time favorite books 🙂
I’ve always meant to read Lord of the Rings, but never got around to it.
Ahh books!!! the things that often keep me away from mommy. The only way make her play with me again is by covering the book with my body.
Fraz and Winky… Ha! I like that description, internet on paper…cool
Sometimes we get a little lost in our reading and forget the people around us. Ah, the power of a good book!
Happy New Year 2012!!! Good resolution 🙂
Happy New Year, Cha!
And the words don’t get bigger when you part your fingers across them!

I think books should get with the times!
