Hmmm… Seems to me that the earth could still be unique, and the other possibilities in an infinite universe to be well… infinite. It’s just that the finite mind can’t comprehend infinity. [I have to go lie down now…] 🙄
If you believe the earth and solar system is an event born out of circumstance, then in an infinite universe those exact circumstances would be repeated and infinite number of times. And with an infinite number of occurrences, however improbable, things would eventually turn out as they have here on earth in other places throughout the universe as well. However crazy that sounds.
Well… that’s if you consider the circumstance to be one based on chance and probabilities. On the other hand, if you consider that circumstance to be one of design, and beyond what we know, then we can’t be sure if there is repetition or not. You know, our tendency to think of the universe as repeating itself, might just be our inability to comprehend infinity itself. Perhaps when we reach the limit of what we know, we put up another reflection of the knowledge we already have. ‘Maybe’…
Well that is another way to look at it. The more we know, or think we know about reality, the stranger things get. Undoubtedly, a great deal of what we know will turn out to be wrong. There are many competing and contradictory theories or explanations, all of which cannot be true. Infinity is one of those concepts that is probably impossible for us to truly grasp. The true nature of reality and our existence will probably always be open to speculation. It is a fascinating subject, that may just be beyond our ability to comprehend.
