It must be something to do with the Coriolis effect and gravity in the Southern Hemisphere. Or maybe you just install you light switches upside down. Or we do.
We need to take an international Light Switch Poll to determine how many countries have UP for on and DOWN for on. Apparently in Japan the switches work sideways.
Perhaps there’s a good opportunity here to make an energy efficient light switch which is off in both the up and down position.
Here in Oregon they are correct.ย Up for on, down for off.ย At least if installed the right way.ย Sideways?ย That can’t be….. going to check…..ย They are sideways in Japan!ย How weird is that?
I knew someone with those in a room.ย She said when she was sitting and reading the lights would go off and she would have to make some motion to get them back.
Actually Will yours are the wrong way round, but wrong way round, side by side, or up and down, they could make us all a bit dizzy at this rate of knots ๐
Wombania is like the lost continent ofย Atlantis and it’s exact location must be kept top secret. But we’re currently living with Chris in North America.
I never realized your light switches were opposite to ours.
Yes that is what I was saying too ๐ It’s easy when you know how the lights work ๐ Now where are those chocolates, I think that it is time for a nice selection don’t you Duncan R?
I’m pretty good about cutting lights out. It’s just when I go to sleep, I like to snooze with the lights blazing. My wife will generally have to cut them off for me.
And seeing how Down Under their light switches work the opposite way, and their seasons are opposite to ours too, makes it all too complicated to figure out! I think I’ll just have some chocolate.
Hey Winkyย those swingers are everywhere these days so you had better watch out for those ๐ I know why don’t we all sit down and have a few chocolates, it’s nearly Christmas so I think that we all deserve a nice treat or ten, so how about it Winky are you in the mood for some chocolates? ๐
In my house, half of the switches turn on upwards, half of the switches turn on downwards. Obvisouly, they weren’t all installed by the same electrician.
I like the way you handled this – separating the ones who got it and felt they were being spoken down to and Wombat who is completely clueless and sees it as instructive. Well done.
besides the clapper he could get an extender for the switch or put in a dimmer (and NO I am not referring to Winky, how dare you think that!)
add another for the chocolate line.
(yea!!, I signed up for emails, now I won’t miss a thing! just noticed, I haven’t been online much lately, sorry)

Ha Ha Ha!!! to Winky’s comment
Excellent instructional Demonstration Chris. Will the next one be a Powerpoint Slide show???
Here in our part of the world Down is On & Up is Off. I guess it’s the whole Northern/Southern Hemispheres effect
It must be something to do with the Coriolis effect and gravity in the Southern Hemisphere. Or maybe you just install you light switches upside down. Or we do.
Coriolis???ย What’s up with the technical jargon?
Sorry, I thought this was the science channel.
It’s Binky! Why are you surprized?
No it is the same over here too, down for on and up for off, it’s a simplistic idea but Chris is definitely sarcastic and no mistake ๐

I know, and then there’s the push-button ones!
Maybe all switches should be replaced with those motion sensor ones that turn the lights on and off automatically when you enter and exit a room.
I knew someone with those in a room.ย She said when she was sitting and reading the lights would go off and she would have to make some motion to get them back.
I guess the lights were saying she’s not there.
Actually Will yours are the wrong way round, but wrong way round, side by side, or up and down, they could make us all a bit dizzy at this rate of knots ๐
Now I’m so confused, I think I’ll never be able to use a light switch ever again!
Hhmm, now I’m confused.
In UK Down is on & Up is Off , same as Tasmania
So where exactly is Wombania ?
Wombania is like the lost continent ofย Atlantis and it’s exact location must be kept top secret. But we’re currently living with Chris in North America.
I never realized your light switches were opposite to ours.
Yes that is what I was saying too ๐ It’s easy when you know how the lights work ๐ Now where are those chocolates, I think that it is time for a nice selection don’t you Duncan R?
All this light switch talk is really confusing and I think it’s time for more chocolates too!
That remark right there is why Winky is the best! Although, I wonder how they reach that switch in the first place. Hmmm.
Those light switch thingys would be a lot easier to use if they were closer to the ground. I have to put Fraz on my shoulder to reach it!
I bet that trick works well whenย reaching for those tins of chocolates too? ๐
Chris can’t hide anything from us!
Well I think we all know now who’s running up that electricity bill…! Although, Winky just might be the brilliant one when it comes to sarcasm.
Sarcasm? Right, that’s what it was! I’m a lot more brilliant than I thought!
The smart ones get annoyed while the not so smart one got a new info ๐
I hope you’re not saying I’m the not-so-smart one!
It depends on how you see it Wink ๐
The way I see it, it’s chocolate time!
It is certainly a way to make ‘light’ of a situation…
Which is good since I’m usually in the dark!
Haha! Did you remember which way you had to switch the lights for this comic or did you have to check?
I actually remembered. My father taught me how to install a light switch many years ago.
Ha!
I’ve heard that lecture a few times myself (I’m a bit of a slow learner, you know)!
๐
I think I might have heard it a few times, too!
That was a good demonstration. I’ll have to remember that!
Me too!
All you wanted to know about light switches but were afraid to ask.ย I too think they should be lowered now that they know what they are for.
Have a terrific day.ย ย ๐
Maybe we should start a petition. “Lower the light switches now!”
Mrs. Scholar keeps having the same lecture with me. It’s just not sinking in.
I know, some things are harder to understand than others.
I’m pretty good about cutting lights out. It’s just when I go to sleep, I like to snooze with the lights blazing. My wife will generally have to cut them off for me.
I hope you’re talking about the lights!
Yes don’t be getting anything cut off George or you really will be in trouble ๐
Empty words to marsupials. Being nocturnal makes the whole concept confusing ๐
And seeing how Down Under their light switches work the opposite way, and their seasons are opposite to ours too, makes it all too complicated to figure out! I think I’ll just have some chocolate.
Make mine a double ๐
A double chocolate chocolate with chocolate on top!
with a chocolate.
And a chocolate milkshake.
I hate it when you have these double switches and the switch gets flipped backwards.

Too many complications!!
I really like your multi panel comics
Thanks, Nurse Myra. They take a lot more effort to produce so I didn’t make very many of them. There’s only a couple more left to be shown.
I wonder what would happen if they came across one of those lights that uses a pull cord?? Cute illustrations as always. W.C.C.
I think I’d pull it just to see what would happen!
Maybe you could take turns atย swinging on it, like Tarzan after his oats, I mean his chocolates ๐
The last time I got caught swinging through the house I got into trouble ๐
Hey Winkyย those swingers are everywhere these days so you had better watch out for those ๐ I know why don’t we all sit down and have a few chocolates, it’s nearly Christmas so I think that we all deserve a nice treat or ten, so how about it Winky are you in the mood for some chocolates? ๐
I’m never not in the mood for chocolate, so we can have a few dozen now. And later, too!
I think a “clap on clap off” light would be easier to use!
Now why didn’t Chris think of that?!
In my house, half of the switches turn on upwards, half of the switches turn on downwards. Obvisouly, they weren’t all installed by the same electrician.
Perhaps half of the switches were installed by an electrician who came from another country.
Truly enlightened now. ๐
We try to be educational.
Haha this is a conversation i have with my nieces and nephews.
But do they listen? Probably not!
Nope they like to heat and air condition the state as well by leaving doors open..
I knew it! All kids (and Wombies!) are the same.
I like the way you handled this – separating the ones who got it and felt they were being spoken down to and Wombat who is completely clueless and sees it as instructive. Well done.
Thanks, Frank. In laying it out, it seemed to work better that way.
I think it is time for some light refreshments… Now who wants some fizzy with their chocolate muffins? ๐
It’s always time for refreshments! And party hats!
Yes don’t forget the Party Hats Winky ๐ ๐
It’s not a party without party hats!
besides the clapper he could get an extender for the switch or put in a dimmer (and NO I am not referring to Winky, how dare you think that!)
add another for the chocolate line.
(yea!!, I signed up for emails, now I won’t miss a thing! just noticed, I haven’t been online much lately, sorry)
Thanks for not calling me dim!! You get extra chocolates for that!
Well I hope the emailed comics work for you. I’ve been testing them and they seem to be a bit inconsistent.
He needs to install a clapper. ๐
That would make life a lot simpler!
They can’t reach the light switch.
That doesn’t stop them from reaching the cookie jar or anything else they want to get!
I guess turning off the lights doesn’t motivate them like cookies do.
That’s for sure! Maybe if I put a cookie on the light switch. . .
The others were insulted, while Winky learned something new! LOL! I didnโt know that electricity was โmagicalโ. ๐
Electricity is kind of magical when you don’t know how it works!
